Health Care Reform Update – What’s coming up in 2012?

Some big changes are coming in 2012 under the Affordable Care Act. One new proposed set of rules says that health insurers must provide consumers with clear, consistent information about health plan options to help participants determine the best health insurance options for themselves and their families.  Likewise, these proposed rules will assist employers in finding the best coverage for their business and their employees.  Specifically, two important insurance forms, scheduled to be available in 2012, will be a critical resource for more than 180 million health insurance consumers with private health insurance coverage.

The two forms are:

  • An easy to understand Summary of Benefits and Coverage
  • A uniform Glossary of terms commonly used in health insurance coverage

These forms include basic information including:

  • What is your annual premium?
  • What is your annual deductible?
  • What services are NOT covered by my policy?
  • What will my costs be if I go to a provider in my network versus one that is not in my network?
